TRATACORK is a technology-based company, set up in 2012 by researchers from the University of Salamanca.
In 2010 the Recognised Research Group (RRG) “Supercritical Fluids and Activated Carbons” began to focus their research activities on cork, with the aim of developing an effective procedure to eliminate 2,4,6-Trichloroanisole (TCA) and other contaminants from cork bottle stoppers.
Following on from their research, the group proposed a Vacuum Thermal Desorption-based procedure, patented by the University of Salamanca.
To transfer the results of this research, TRATACORK was set up with the immediate aim of developing the procedure and making it available commercially.
Only R&D&I has the potential to ensure that cork continues to be the preferred wine bottle closure option.
RESOURCES AND EQUIPMENT
TRATACORK incorporates researchers from the University of Salamanca Recognised Research Group “Supercritical Fluids and Activated Carbons” for the research activity development. TRATACORK avails of an infrastructure suited to a wide range of studies, trials and treatments on cork at the facilities and laboratories of the University of Salamanca Chemical Science faculty.
On the other hand, as a spin-off associated with the University of Salamanca, Tratacork has access to the top-level research support services offered to researchers by the University.
The organoleptic neutrality of natural and technical cork, retaining its natural properties
At TRATACORK, we work to develop innovative technological solutions and services, aimed at producing excellent quality cork stoppers.
With this aim, TRATACORK makes its VTD technology available to stopper manufacturers, enabling them to eliminate the risk of contamination by TCA and other contaminants, while guaranteeing the absolute sensorial neutrality of their product.
TRATACORK, designs and builds licensed equipment to treat cork in granule, stopper and disc forms, tailored to the requirements and specifications of each client.
We provide technological support and action protocols to optimise TCA elimination from a range of stopper types, at different contamination levels. We also offer training in VTD technology and operating the equipment.
As R&D&I experts and consultants, TRATACORK is equipped to deal with many of the problems that arise in stopper manufacture and quality control, offering the best solutions.
At your service
Additionally, TRATACORK offers a cork cleaning service for companies who wish to improve the quality of their stoppers but who, due to size or other constraints, are not interested in acquiring the technology.
